I Left for the Children does not provide step-by-step answers or prescribe how healing should look. Instead, it offers language, perspective, and context for experiences that are often lived silently or misunderstood.
Through lived experiences, research-informed insight, and intergenerational voices, the book invites thoughtful engagement — allowing readers to move at their own pace, reflect privately, and decide what meaning they carry forward.
What Both Editions Offer
• The complete memoir, presented in its published form
• Language to name experiences that were once confusing, minimized, or silenced
• Insight into family systems, trauma responses, and long-term emotional patterns
• Perspective without blame — acknowledging impact without assigning identity or fault
• A reading experience designed for reflection, not urgency or instruction
• An understanding that healing is not linear — and does not require perfection
This book does not ask readers to relive their pain.
It offers understanding — and the freedom to decide what to carry forward and what to leave behind.
A Note on the Editions
One work. One truth. Two paths of intentional doorways into healing.
The Legacy Edition reflects my story.
Its cover represents me—my lived experience as a Black woman, a mother, and a survivor. It is personal, rooted, and intentional. It honors the reality that stories of domestic violence have faces, histories, and bodies—and that my voice matters exactly as it is.
The Unity Edition was created for a different, equally considered purpose.
While the content of this edition is identical to the Legacy Edition, the cover was designed to be universal rather than representative of any single identity. This was done with intention—not to replace the Legacy Edition, and not to dilute personal experience—but to allow the work to move freely across cultures, countries, and institutional spaces without assigning a single face to a global human reality.
Domestic violence does not belong to one race, one class, one culture, or one nation. It exists everywhere. And while our lives, histories, and identities differ, the impact of trauma is profoundly human. Fear, control, loss, and survival are experienced across borders, languages, and social systems.
As a holistic therapist, I know that visuals matter. What we see influences whether we feel included, whether we feel safe enough to engage, and whether we believe a space was created with us in mind. The Unity Edition cover was created so that no reader would feel excluded by what they see before they ever open the book.
This edition does not claim to represent every survivor. Instead, it creates room—for many stories, many identities, and many points of entry into reflection and healing.
This is the meaning of Global in Legacy of Healing Global:
not sameness, but shared humanity.
A straightforward purchase. No programs. No obligations.
I Left for the Children is presented as a complete, standalone work. It does not require enrollment, follow-up materials, or additional instruction to engage fully.
This Memoir is designed to stand on its own — allowing readers to read privately, return to sections over time, and engage at a pace that feels appropriate to them.
